In A Body Draws Itself, my figure is obscured behind a thin white sheet of paper suspended horizontally. As I inch toward the center of the frame I realize that my shadow is being projected onto the sheet by a backlit light source. The fold of a breast, a pointed nipple, and the curve of a belly emerge as a dark silhouette. I place one hand at the top of the paper to pull it taut, while the other traces those sensuous shapes with a stick of charcoal.
